Thank you Nashville for an exciting Roxy Revival festival!
One of the Roxy Revival bands chats with a fan outside the Roxy Theater.
The historic Roxy Theater has been a neighborhood landmark since opening in 1937. The commercial area surrounding the theater served as a regional center for half a century, beginning with the opening of Red Cross Drugs in 1914 (original building still stands). In its heyday, the "Roxy District" boasted a post office, barber shop, shoe repair store, grocery store, department store, clothing store, pharmacy, trolley line connected to downtown, and of course, a movie theater.
This important district is now threatened by years of neglect, high vacancy rates, and more recently, speculative real estate development. Thank you to everyone who came out November 9 to show your support for this valuable landmark. Stay tuned for our ongoing efforts to save the Roxy.
